TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

As a teaching artist I follow various philosophies and practices:

• Experience painting, collage, sculpture and printing as well as portraits, landscape, still life, abstract, conceptual.

• Draw from observation and from their imagination.

• Develop hand-eye coordination & motor-skills.

• Explore a variety of materials including found, recycled and natural.

• Be encouraged to solve problems creatively.

• Understand that art is a process that takes time and care.

• Learn the basics of color theory.

• Express oneself creatively making art

• Combine art with literacy making art insoired by books

• Understand the tradition of craft where artisans use materials such as wood, glass and stone to create everyday functional art.

• Realize that buildings, clothing, and products have been designed by artists and architects - and that all of them are viable careers in the arts.
